Does the natural flavourings in Sodii contain maltodextrin?

At Sodii, we know that not everyone enjoys the neutral and salty taste from our Unflavoured product. This is why we have our flavoured hydration blends, which are as refreshing as they are effective. Each flavour has been perfected through many versions as we try to find the ideal balance between salty, sweet, and sour, while while meeting our standards for simple, clean, and real ingredients.

Our natural flavours are inspired by natural fruit, using real fruit oils for each flavour. For example, our Salty Citrus flavour contains lemon oil. However, it's not as simple as extracting oil from a fruit and adding into our electrolyte blend. It needs to be combined with small amount of a carrier ingredient to hold the flavouring. The carrier that is most commonly used in supplements and health foods is maltodextrin, known for its taste, mixability and product performance.

The small amount of maltodextrin found in our natural flavouring is a starch from corn, made by a process called hydrolysis, which breaks down the starch from corn. Maltodextrin is technically a complex carbohydrate but is quickly digested, meaning when taken in larger quantities it can cause a rise in blood glucose, just like any carbohydrate. However, for most people this is dose dependent and the trace amount found in our products is not enough to trigger a rise in blood glucose levels. We have had members of our team and external users wear blood glucose monitors to test the response from drinking Sodii, who all saw similar results.

The amount of maltodextrin found in Sodii slightly varies from flavour to flavour, however, Salty Berry contains the least with 0.15g per serve with the rest ranging from 0.38g to 0.4g per serve.

To put that into perspective, 1 almond or 1 olive contains around 0.3g of carbohydrates. These minimal amounts are small enough that is it unlikely to trigger a change in blood sugar levels for most people.

We understand everyone is different and sensitivity levels to carbohydrates can vary, so if you have concerns around this or if you just prefer simplicity and minimal ingredients, we recommend trying our Unflavoured version, which is flavouring and maltodextrin free.

It's always best speak to your health care provider for personalised advice recommendations on supplements.

We’re committed to continually refining and improving our formulas and products for the best in hydration, nutrition, and taste. If an alternative carrier ingredient becomes available, we will be sure to test it out!
